I got to hear from an interesting person (who was travelling with me on a passenger train) that the word "SHARMA" has somehow a reliable connection with the word "GERMA". He added that the Sharmas might have been a community lived in the north-western Himalayas. Since Himalayas is believed to be the origin of the Aryans, this community would have made their settlement in Europe. I am strictly talking about the COINCIDENCE of the name and btw I am not a researcher.

Finally, this is for those who are really interested and have the ability and to do research too including you Ujjwal.

The logo was designed by Dr. Otto Firle and when he designed it he was thinking of a crane and "free as a bird" so thats how he came up with the logo.

The word was designed by F.A. Fischer von Poturzyn and he has a whole book named as Lufthansa, I think you should read it.

If you find any thing interesting let me know :).
If you prove me wrong I will be grateful to correct my wrong knowledge.

+ Definitely the hanseatic leagues might have connections and the word means "guild" in German but we are not talking about mere a century or two centuries. We are talking about the roots of the word.

Briefly
When an aeroplane service first started in Germany, the aircraft they employed in service were pure white, resembling huge white swans. When these aeroplanes would fly into the sky and grow slowly smaller and disappear, they would look like swans disappearing into the heart of the sky. In Sanskrit, the word that could describe them was lupth-hansa, or the hidden swan and thats the correct meaning.

Friends might think so, yes but truth will always remain truth. So i do not think giving proof will be necessary unless one wants to get in deep research in itself.
However, I can guarantee you 110% dear friends, it was in fact derived from those two words. In fact there are many such words which has been derived from Sanskrit. I do not think just being derived from Sanskrit is a big issue.
Also, you should ask a well known and experienced historian and just for everyones information, Sanskrit is the mother language of most of the languages of the world including our German. Try to prove this wrong, if you can.
I can give you a very long list of German words which have derived from Sanskrit.

But first any of the above people who commented, I would sincerely like to request all of you to do some research before claiming that its wrong. The artcile above is done by someone who has done a very critical research in this matter.
Wikipedia removed it because this is the world of power. They will most definitely not trust this and Sanskrit is at the verge of being extinct.

Forget about 19 or 18th century friends, Sanskrit language evolved ten thousands of years ago :). Every historian will agree on this. It is wortheless to debate.

How silly. Lufthansa may indeed translate to "disappearing swan" in Sanskrit, but in the context of the German airline, that is absolutely not its meaning.

In 1926, the airline was formed under the name Deutsche Luft Hansa. "Luft" means "air" in German, which makes perfect sense when applied to an airline. "Hansa" is a variant of "Hanse," the historical name for the Hanseatic League, an economic trade alliance the successors of which continue to be engaged in commerce in Germany. Hansa contributed most of the airline's start-up capital. And it is almost inconceivable that a German-speaking airline would name itself in Sanskrit rather than in its own language.

The bird on the tail is a crane, not a swan. The designer of the logo, Otto Firle, indicated his inspiration was the crane. The design has changed slightly over the years, but the original 1918 design clearly is a crane.

It is highly doubtful that any aircraft resembled a disappearing swan when Lufthansa took its name. The Junkers G23 and G24, the original aircraft flown by Lufthansa, were anything but swanlike, and in Lufthansa livery were painted black on the underside of the fuselage and wings, not white.

A good try, but it does not make sense.
